The Christie NHS Foundation Trust is looking to appoint enthusiastic and experienced GPs with an interest in breast cancer care to join our multidisciplinary teams for one to two sessions (4-8 hours) per week in a substantive role.
The successful candidates will join the multidisciplinary team across Medical Oncology comprising consultants, clinical fellows, a specialist registrar, nurse clinicians, a pharmacist, clinical nurse specialists, research nurses, project managers and clinical trial administrators.
There are multiple positions available. An indicative job plan is provided for working two clinics across the week; however, there is some flexibility around working days with different clinics available across the week.
There is 1PA available specifically for a breast patient clinic in Macclesfield.
Main duties of the job
The duties and responsibilities of the role, which may be adjusted in the light of changing/developing priorities, include: • Attendance and review of patients in the weekly breast Medical Oncology clinics. This will include new and follow up patients, on treatment. • Completion of patient administration tasks • Completion of and maintenance of Good Clinical Practice Certification (regulatory requirement for clinical trial participation, if appropriate). • Become familiar with ongoing clinical trials, as appropriate (for context when seeing outpatients in clinic). • Provide a point of contact for General Practitioners as a community expert in the field of Breast Cancer. • Potential for setting up and coordinating training days for General Practitioners in the specialty of Breast Cancer, if desired. • Potential for maintenance and update of educational material/training for General Practitioners, if desired. • Maintaining knowledge of local, national and international developments in diagnosis and treatment of Breast Cancer through attendance at conferences, as appropriate.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To join well-established multidisciplinary teams working to maintain a high-standard breast service within Medical Oncology. To supplement your career as a generalist with the opportunity to gain specialist knowledge and skills in breast disease management. To expand your experience with the peer-support of experienced multidisciplinary teams. To work closely with your locality teams. To gain knowledge and experience about the management and symptom control of patients with Breast cancer. To enhance patient care by managing conditions at a specialist level, whilst taking a holistic approach to co-existing multi-morbidities. To work collaboratively with the locality teams to manage the cancer pathway treatment and care. To provide an insight into general practice to facilitate education and training about management of breast and gynae disease within primary care. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the training and education of other health professionals and medical students within the team. To actively participate in the disease group audit and research programmes. To complete administrative work to a high standard and in a timely fashion. To participate in appraisal, mentoring and clinical supervision arrangements whilst working towards personal competencies and accreditation of the role with the RCGP. To maintain general practice competencies, and a role within general practice, to facilitate an integrated primary and secondary breast and gynae model of care.

Experience
Essential
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in general practice post CCT
- Experience of implementing service improvement
- An understanding of the assessment and basic management of malignancies
- An understanding of cancer pathways
- An awareness of national cancer targets and standards
Desirable
- Evidence of engagement with management and/or audit processes
- Evidence of teaching and involvement in the education of medical students/junior doctors
Attainments
Essential
- MBChB or equivalent
- MRCGP
- Full GMC registration with a license to practice
- Must be registered on the Performers List for England
- Demonstrates understanding of research principles and data analysis
Desirable
- Evidence of any publications
Personal Skills
Essential
- Awareness of development needs and desire to achieve this through evidenced based appraisal.
