NHS GRAMPIAN

CONSULTANT IN EMERGENCY MEDICINE - FIXED TERM FOR 8 MONTHS

NHS Grampian has a thrilling opportunity for a highly skilled, enthusiastic and motivated, newly qualified or established Consultant to join our Emergency Department (ED) teams in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital.

The successful candidate will not only play a key role in the continuing development of the Departments of Emergency Medicine in the region’s acute hospitals, serving a total population of approximately 500,000 with in excess of 100,000 ED attendances per annum, but also help in our endeavour to enhance services for the local populations, through innovation, technology, collaboration and governance, with a cohesive regional leadership. This is an exciting time to be part of our transformation programme.

This recruitment will provide maternity cover for our Consultant team with an opportunity to be part of a busy tertiary level Major Trauma Centre which serves both adult and paediatric patients.

Across all sites we have a modern teaching capacity with further educational and conference facilities located in centres available to all successful candidates. There is an expectation that you will participate in a regional governance and teaching programmes.

Depending on the Consultant’s clinical commitment, we expect the successful applicant to participate in the on-call rotas. On-call rota will be limited to a maximum of 1: 6 on-call and 1: 6 weekend working combined. Detailed job plan will be negotiable upon successful application and interview.

We have a strong affiliation with the Scottish RCEM Board, The Scottish Trauma Network and Faculty of Pre-hospital Care with consultant colleagues sitting in formal positions on all of these boards.

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview. CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) or Portfolio Pathway route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive Consultant post once CESR or Portfolio Pathway specialist registration is awarded. Those with an International Recognised Specialist Qualification approved by GMC should have a confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register.
