Do you have a passion for fire safety in the public sector? We are recruiting to our fire safety team and are looking for a part-time fire safety maintenance adviser to support the delivery of fire safety improvements across the Trust.
The fire safety team are responsible for delivering fire safety improvement work across all three sites - Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Royal Hampshire County Hospital and Andover War Memorial Hospital.
We are looking for an experienced fire safety maintenance professional who will be able to understand and interpret NHS HTM standards, balancing fire safety and clinical operational risks.
Main duties of the job
The fire safety maintenance adviser is a key member of the fire safety team. The team are responsible for ensuring fire safety systems and maintenance activities are compliant with HTM and statutory legislation (this postholder is the authorised person for fire safety maintenance). The adviser works with the Fire, Health and Safety Manager, Senior Fire Safety Adviser and the Estates team to support and provide input into system design, installation, maintenance and safety procedures.
The adviser, working to the senior fire safety adviser, acts as an interface between contractors and internal estates and fire safety teams to ensure that all maintenance, testing and remedial works for fire safety systems are carried out safely and competently.
The adviser checks and escalates contractor competence and performance, this includes considering system integrity during construction activities or changes in building use and administering permit‑to‑work process. The role also includes monitoring system operation, managing faults and activations, and supporting measures to minimise false alarms. Additionally, the adviser, working with the senior fire safety adviser, supports the delivery of maintenance and testing regimes and that contingency arrangements to maintain fire safety are in place in the event of system failures.
