Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a motivated individual to join us as a Finance Apprentice within the Finance Department (Financial Management).

This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic person to start their career within a specialised Women’s and Children’s Trust and to begin a journey which will provide an exciting and fulfilling career pathway.

We have a dedicated team who will support you in your apprenticeship programme. They will work closely with you and your manager to provide a comprehensive development plan detailing your objectives and workplace goals.

You will be employed on a 18 month fixed term training contract of 37.5 hours per week.  You will be given time during your working hours for study towards the apprenticeship to attend training sessions on the underpinning knowledge of procedures and policies that impact on the role.  Your study will be towards an Accounting qualification.

We are looking for a candidate who is ambitious, brave and compassionate and can demonstrate a high level of commitment to the Apprenticeship programme.   Apprentices who don’t already have maths and English GCSE Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) will be required to complete these subjects as part of the apprenticeship programme. Ideally, you will have an interest in progressing in a career within Financial Management, or wider Finance/Accountancy.

Main duties of the job

  • Working with the team to raise invoices and respond to queries in a timely and professional manner
  • Producing reports from Finance systems, uploading journals and payroll corrections. This could include (but not limited to):
  • Transaction reports to show  spend at transactional level for your division,
  • Budget reports giving the financial position for a specific or range of cost centres.
  • Funding reports to send to Research and Development sponsors, giving an update of the status of project income,
  • Payroll reports to show total pay elements from payroll per month
  • Adjustment journals to recharge costs from the trust income and expenditure between divisions,
  • Accrual journals to recognise income and expenditure that is expected but not yet received or paid out.
  • Completing recruitment, bank and agency risk assessment forms in a timely manner.
  • To provide financial advice and assistance to Divisional Budget Holders and Managers, and external parties as and when required.
  • Assist in the costing and financial management of research projects. Input Research recharges to other internal departments.
  • Provide a research credit control function, ensuring invoices are duly paid and that customers are engaged professionally (for example, invoice backing sent out).
  • To undertake any other duties deemed appropriate by Commercial Finance Manager, or the Management Accountant.
