Main duties of the job

We pride ourselves on providing a friendly, customer focused and caring Portering / Courier service.

Working alongside clinical teams and infection control, Portering / Courier teams provide local and regional logistics to support the day to day running of hospital services across two counties. Duties will require you to work to schedules and procedures to ensure a smooth operation across multiple departments.

You will form part of a team providing comprehensive Portering / Courier services. Tasks will include transport and collection / delivery of mail, specimens, pharmacy etc., both on site and to other sites as required. When assigned to undertake courier duties a vehicle will be supplied and must be maintained to ensure it remains roadworthy and fit for use by others.

Portering duties will include handling and monitoring medical gas, recording, and processing paperwork related to receiving/making deliveries, managing, and allocating keys to appropriate staff / contractors, and moving equipment, provisions, laundry, waste and furniture, all in line with Trust policies and procedures. You will also be required to undertake security of trust buildings when appropriate.

On some days, you may spend time lone working and as part of a team on others. The role is varied as no two days are the same.

In return, you will receive full support, training and guidance to enable you to fulfil the role and undertake these duties.
