Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust is looking for2 enthusiastic Band 6 MSK Physiotherapists to join our forward-thinking, patient-centred MSK Outpatient Physiotherapy Service.
We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for dynamic and motivated Band 6 MSK Physiotherapists to join our forward-thinking MSK team within Torbay and South Devon. These new posts are to support the Trust's increase in orthopaedic activity. All South Devon sites are home to friendly and supportive physiotherapy teams.
This role is ideally suited to a physiotherapist who thrives on managing a varied and often complex caseload. It provides an excellent opportunity to further develop your diagnostic, clinical reasoning, and rehabilitation skills in a well-established MSK service.

Main duties of the job
- Provide a high standard of physiotherapy service to people presenting at musculoskeletal (MSK) outpatient clinics based in physiotherapy departments across South Devon. There is a rapid access booking system in place with up to 50% of patients self-referring.
- Act as a source of expertise on the assessment and management of general MSK patients to patients, physiotherapists, student physiotherapists, assistants/technical instructors, other healthcare professionals, G.P’s, and consultants.
- Educate and train physiotherapists, students, and other healthcare professionals in physiotherapeutic management of general MSK conditions.
- Within the MSK service we can offer a range of rehabilitation classes, acupuncture, steroid injections and 1:1 treatment.
- Close MDT links.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Ability to use a variety of communication methods to conduct patient Assessments/interactions for example telephone, video or face to face consultations and adapt communication strategies accordingly.
- Assess patient understanding of treatment proposals, gain valid formal consent and jointly agreed goals. To have the capacity to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
- Communication will include imparting sensitive and comprehensive information relating to diagnosis, prognosis, physical and functional recovery and potential life style adjustments to patients and their relatives. This may involve informing patients that they may be unable to return home or return to their previous level of activity/work/leisure.
- To maintain accurate comprehensive and up to date documentation, in line with legal, departmental and CSP standards of practice and to monitor that of less experienced staff. To communicate assessment and treatment results to the appropriate disciplines in the form of reports, letters or verbally.
- To be responsible for accurate and timely data input into the IHCS data collection system for patient registration and contact information and discharge.

Qualifications
Essential
- Diploma / degree in physiotherapy
- State registration - current HCPC certificate
- Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio
- Experience within the NHS as a Band 5 physiotherapist working in a range of clinical settings, including the musculoskeletal field.
- Previous MSK experience equivalent to NHS Band 5/6
Desirable
- Qualification in acupuncture
- • Post graduate qualification in relevant MSK skills, for example MACP/Society of Orthopaedic Medicine/ Pilates/acupuncture/strength and conditioning
- • Band 6 experience within a musculoskeletal setting in the National Health Service
Knowledge and Skills
Essential
- Advanced working knowledge of a broad range of musculoskeletal conditions.
- Experience of working as part of a physiotherapy team and multidisciplinary team (health / social care).
- Clinical skills encompassing the core areas of exercise therapy, management of pain relief, mobility training and therapeutic handling.
- Sound assessment skills with clinical reasoning and analytical ability.
- Proven ability of complex case management.
- Knowledge of the relevant NSFs and clinical guidelines, and experience of implementing these recommendations in practice.
- Competent IT skills.
- Ability to maintain judgment under pressure

- Training in Staff Appraisal

- Clinical educator course
- Evidence of participating in Clinical Audit
