We are seeking an experienced and motivated Estate Lead (South) to join our Estates team, playing a critical role in ensuring our built environment supports the safe and effective delivery of frontline services.

Main duties of the job

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure estate assets meet legal, H&S, and HTM requirements.
  • Manage compliance audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
  • Address hazards and compliance risks to maintain a safe environment.

Operational Estates Management

  • Manage estates services across multiple sites supporting 24/7 operations.
  • Coordinate maintenance, contractors, and service delivery.
  • Resolve estates issues impacting operational services.

Capital & Improvement Projects

  • Support feasibility studies, business cases, and capital projects.
  • Assist with estates strategy, modernisation, and service improvements.

Financial & Contract Management

  • Monitor budgets, costs, and invoices to ensure value for money.
  • Manage contractor performance and contract compliance.

Asset Management & Assurance

  • Maintain asset records and support condition surveys.
  • Provide assurance on estate compliance, condition, and performance.

Stakeholder Engagement & Leadership

  • Build strong relationships with operational teams.
  • Provide estates advice and support to service areas.
  • Promote a collaborative and high-performing team culture.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This is a key leadership role responsible for managing a diverse, multi-site estate within a complex 24/7 operational environment. You will ensure estate assets are maintained in compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, delivering high standards of safety, functionality, and operational resilience.

Working closely with operational teams and senior stakeholders, you will provide expert estates management, support the delivery of capital and maintenance programmes, and ensure facilities effectively support urgent and emergency care services. The role is essential in enabling the organisation’s strategic objectives, including patient safety, service performance, financial sustainability, and estate modernisation.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline, with specialist knowledge in Estates and Facilities Management
  • Evidence of ongoing personal and professional development relevant to estate and facility management.
  • Specialised understanding of the broad aspects facilities and estates management including statutory training in fire, water, asbestos management,
  • Capable of applying their knowledge and expertise to various supervisory tasks, processes or methods, demonstrating versatility and adaptability in the management, direction and control of contractor’s staff who may be maintaining critical equipment, such as generators, shorelines etc
  • Demonstrate practical skills grounded in solid theoretical principles understanding the “why” as well as the “how” in assessing the approach to planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs and the consequential statutory obligations

Desirable

  • Diploma level estates qualification e.g. HND, HNC.
  • Qualification in project management or equivalent.
