Job overview

The Estates Department provides a comprehensive maintenance, repair and installation service of the buildings, grounds, engineering services and associated equipment throughout the Trust.

You must hold a recognised trade apprenticeship and a minimum qualification of BTEC, ONC, HNC or similar certificate or equivalent qualification/experience and previous electro-mechanical maintenance experience would be advantageous as would being conversant with Health & Safety issues.

You must hold a current UK (manual) driving licence and reside within half an hour normal travel time to fulfil on-call duties.

The role is Monday – Friday  plus opportunities for overtime and weekend working.

Salary: £39,959 - £48,117 per annum (Band 5) plus local RRP (£3,500 pa).

Base Location: Bournemouth Hospital

Person specification

Knowledge

Essential

  • Thorough knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and statutory policies & procedures relevant to managing relevant to the management of public buildings, construction & building maintenance

Desirable

  • Knowledge of NHS building design
  • Working knowledge of Construction Design and Management Regulations

Experience

Essential

  • Substantial experience managing a multi-disciplinary teams / contractors in the built environment
  • Experience in using computer aided facilities management (CAFM) software
  • Experience of working in the Construction or Healthcare Building services industry including site supervision of contractors

Desirable

  • Previous experience in NHS

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in construction or building services plus specialist training and knowledge to diploma level or equivalent experience gained through a relevant apprenticeship plus additional knowledge and experience gained through training, short courses and CPD

Personal Attributes

Essential

  • Full driving licence & prepared to travel between sites.
  • Professional, calm and efficient manner
  • Effective organiser

Language Requirement

Essential

  • Be able to speak English as necessary to undertake the role

Technical Skills Competencies

Essential

  • Experience of management / maintenance of Fire Doors
  • Experience of working in Confined spaces / working at Height
  • Good communication skills with the ability to deal with staff at all levels of the organisation.
  • Ability to explain complex and technical information to a range of audiences both specialist and non-specialist.
  • Good organisational and planning skills

Desirable

  • Previous experience of being an authorised person
