An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Estates Team as an Estates Manager (Compliance).

We are seeking an experienced estates professional, ideally with an Electrical Engineering background and a strong understanding of both mechanical and electrical building services, to support the management of our complex NHS estate.

Working alongside fellow Estates Managers, you will lead on statutory compliance, manage estates-related risks, maintain policies and procedures, and oversee a wide range of operational estates services across multiple sites.

The successful candidate will have significant estates management experience, strong technical knowledge, and the ability to work collaboratively to ensure our estate remains safe, compliant and fit for purpose.

Main duties of the job

Reporting into the Senior Estates Manager, some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Manage and monitor estates-related risks, ensuring appropriate controls and mitigation measures are in place.
  • Provide specialist technical advice and support on engineering and compliance matters.
  • Manage contractors and external service providers to ensure safe, effective and compliant service delivery.
  • Work collaboratively with clinical and non-clinical colleagues to support the delivery of high-quality patient care environments.

Person specification

Knowledge

Essential

  • In depth knowledge of key areas of regulatory compliance for health and safety such as electricity, water safety, ventilation, asbestos, fire, legionella, falls from height, LOLER.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to overcome barriers to engagement by stakeholders using negotiating and influencing skills.
  • Report writing and presentation skills

Desirable

  • In-depth knowledge of decontamination and sterile services processes, ligatures and self-harm risks, medical gases
  • Knowledge of relevant NHS specific guidance associated with Estates and Facilities Infrastructure including HTMs and HBNs.
  • Knowledge of NHS reporting and audit processes including ERIC, PAM and PLACE.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in a management position of the operational management of a large Estate, to include building fabric, building services and associated engineering systems and equipment
  • Experience of writing and implementing policies and procedures covering engineering maintenance, and estates health and safety
  • Experience of writing risk assessments, safe work procedures and operation of permit to work systems

Desirable

  • Experience in managing health and safety in an organisational setting
  • Project management experience

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to Degree Level, HNC/ HND in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Building services
  • City and Guilds practical training certificate as approved Engineering tradecraft technical qualification. Level 3-4
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development and ongoing learning

Desirable

  • Qualified to master’s degree Level in an Engineering discipline, Safety or Facilities Management
  • Membership of engineering or building professional institution
  • Health and safety qualification e.g., NEBOSH General, Construction or Fire certificate.
