You will support the Estates team in delivering a safe, well-maintained environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Working under the direction of Estates Officers and Maintenance Technicians, the role provides planned and reactive maintenance across a wide range of building, engineering, and fabric services. The postholder will carry out routine tasks, minor repairs, and basic trade-related activities, ensuring work is completed efficiently, safely, and in line with Trust procedures and statutory requirements. There will also be a requirement to carry out furniture and equipment removals as well.
The role requires a good level of vocational skill across multiple maintenance disciplines, including basic joinery, building fabric repairs, plumbing, and simple electrical tasks. The postholder will be expected to work flexibly across the estate, responding to day-to-day operational needs.
Main duties of the job
Carry out planned preventative maintenance inspection and testing e.g. fire alarms, fire doors, water, ventilation, drainage, plant room inspections, etc. and completion of associated paperwork/reports.
Record all work undertaken using Trust CAFM systems.
Act as a competent person for ventilation and carry out basic ventilation maintenance tasks
Respond promptly to maintenance requests, assessing issues and completing first line repairs where appropriate.
Undertake minor repairs to building fabric, fixtures, and fittings (e.g., replacing ceiling tiles, repairing hinges, adjusting doors, patching minor wall damage).
Support plumbing related tasks such as unblocking sinks, replacing tap washers, clearing traps, and assisting with minor pipework repairs.
Carry out basic electrical tasks within competency and permitted limits (e.g., lamp replacement, resetting equipment, assisting electricians).
Carry out removals tasks and moving of office equipment
Assist skilled trades staff with more complex works, providing labouring support, tool handling, and preparatory tasks.
Undertake basic joinery tasks such as fitting shelves, assembling furniture, repairing skirting, and adjusting ironmongery.
Support small building work including minor painting, decorating, and making good surfaces following repairs.
Prioritise workload in response to operational demands, escalating issues where required
Participate in the Estates on call or shift rota if required

Skills
Essential
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and access equipment safely
- Good problem solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Basic IT literacy for updating job records and using digital systems
- Understanding of safe working practices, including manual handling and working at height
- Awareness of engineering technology
- Ability to independently travel around the county without relying on public transport
Desirable
- Awareness of statutory compliance areas such as fire safety, water safety, water hygiene and electrical safety
Experience

- Demonstrable experience in a maintenance, building, or engineering support role

- NVQ Level 3 in Engineering/ building trade discipline, or equivalent experience
- GCSE English & Maths A-D, or equivalent
