We are looking for an individual to join our Estates support service team.

You will  reliable estates support service across Trust sites, undertaking a range of complex and non-routine tasks to ensure safe and well-maintained environments.

Responsibilities include carrying out routine semi-skilled maintenance and minor repairs to Trust buildings and surrounding grounds that do not require a fully qualified crafts person. The role also involves escorting Estates staff and external contractors across inpatient units to ensure compliance with site procedures, as well as providing flexible holiday and absence cover for site-based Estates personnel to maintain continuity of service.

Main duties of the job

Provide hands-on support to operational teams within patient environments by carrying out routine maintenance, minor repairs and assisting with planned preventative maintenance tasks.

The role involves liaising with estates staff and contractors, ensuring safe working practices in potentially hazardous areas and supporting compliance through inspections, audits, and equipment checks.

Additional duties include basic servicing tasks (e.g. fire safety equipment, PAT testing, and medical gases), maintaining records such as meter readings, assisting with deliveries and transport using Trust vehicles , helping ensure sites remain safe and functional including winter maintenance when required.

Person specification

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Basic knowledge of D.I.Y. skills
  • Intermediate I.T. skills
  • Proven record of working as a semiskilled multi-task operator, i.e. able to use a variety of relevant tools and equipment within safe working guidelines.

Desirable

  • Experience of engineering services within a healthcare/mental health environment.

Qualifications, Education and Training

Essential

  • Knowledge of maintenance tasks, e.g. basic plumbing, repairs, portable appliance testing (PAT Testing), labouring.
  • Basic qualifications GCSE
  • Vocational Qualification in the testing of portable electrical equipment (City and Guilds accredited).

Desirable

  • Qualification in the service and maintenance of fire extinguishers. (British Fire Consortium Cert, or IFEDA Accreditation Cert).

Skills, Competencies and Personal Qualities

Essential

  • Ability to interact appropriately with patients, staff and visitors and those having business with the building/unit.
  • Good time management skills
  • Able to work on own initiative and as a team member
