Our Workplace Team is looking for a skilled and motivated Estates Carpenter to join us on a permanent basis.

This is an exciting opportunity to use your carpentry and joinery expertise to help maintain and improve environments where patients receive care and staff deliver essential services every day. Your work will play a vital role in ensuring our estate remains safe, functional and welcoming for patients, visitors and colleagues.

  • A Level 3 BTEC, City & Guilds qualification in Carpentry and/or Joinery, or equivalent training and industry experience?
  • A completed apprenticeship in a carpentry or joinery discipline?

As an Estates Carpenter, you will undertake a wide range of carpentry, joinery and general building fabric maintenance activities across both clinical and non-clinical areas. No two days are the same, and you'll be involved in everything from repairs and alterations to planned maintenance projects, helping to ensure our hospital estate remains operational, safe and fit for purpose.

Main duties of the job

  • Undertake reactive and planned carpentry, joinery and building fabric maintenance works across our Trust
  • Undertake fire door inspection, maintenance and associated repairs to support fire safety compliance.
  • Carry out repairs and maintenance to doors, locks, ironmongery, partitions, ceilings, flooring, fixtures, fittings and building fabric assets.
  • Respond to maintenance requests generated via the Estates Helpdesk and CAFM system within agreed response times.
  • Diagnose building fabric defects and undertake appropriate repairs to maintain a safe and compliant environment.
  • Assist with minor works, refurbishment projects, and accommodation alterations.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders and job completion information using Trust CAFM systems.
  • Liaise professionally with clinical staff, patients, contractors and colleagues to deliver a customer-focused maintenance service.
  • Work collaboratively with mechanical, electrical, building fabric and other Estates colleagues as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of Estates Maintenance services and the overall resilience of the Trust estate.

Shift details:

  • The shift rota will be 7.15am – 6.00pm, 4 days per week (Monday - Friday) with 1 rolling rest day, or 5 days per week 7.5 hours per day.
  • On-call duties and overtime duties may be required by this role therefore, we ask for some flexibility to carry out maintenance tasks and emergency calls outside normal clinical times.

Person specification

Knowledge and experience

Essential

  • • Experience of multi skilled building fabric/carpentry trades acquired through training / experience
  • • Experienced in the use of IT based control systems
  • • Evidence of recent and relevant CPD
  • • Experience in fire door maintenance and repair
  • • Knowledge / awareness of asbestos, water, electrical and mechanical safety
  • • Holds a current driving licence
  • • Experience of maintenance and repair of commercial/public properties or similar and equipment

Desirable

  • Knowledge of works within hospital environments
  • Knowledge of NHS Technical Guidance

Qualifications and training

Essential

  • BTEC/City&Guilds or equivalent training to minimum level 3 plus relevant post apprenticeship training or equivalent experience

Desirable

  • Fire Door inspection qualification and experience
  • Health & Safety Qualification
