Our Workplace Team is looking for a skilled and motivated Estates Technician to join us on a permanent basis.

Through planned preventative maintenance and fault-finding activities, you will help ensure our buildings, services and facilities remain safe, reliable and fit for purpose.

Do you have:

  • A Level 3 BTEC, City & Guilds qualification in a Mechanical Engineering trade, or equivalent training and industry experience?

And

  • A completed apprenticeship in a mechanical or building engineering services discipline?

Main duties of the job

As an Estates Technician, you will work as part of a dedicated team carrying out planned maintenance, repairs and inspections across a diverse estate. Your skills and expertise will help create the best possible environment for our patients, visitors and staff while supporting the delivery of high-quality healthcare services.

  • Working with other trades, you will carry out planned/unplanned maintenance on the trust estate.
  • We will offer you a varied role where no two days are the same. All we ask in return is some flexibility to carry out maintenance tasks and emergency calls outside normal clinical times.

Shift details:

  • The shift rota will be 7.15am – 6.00pm, 4 days per week (Monday - Friday) with 1 rolling rest day, or 5 days per week 7.5 hours per day.
  • On-call duties will be required.
  • Overtime duties may be required by this role.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Your role is a key part of the Estates Delivery function, working with colleagues in a friendly and supportive team where everyone has the opportunity to be the best they can be and which ensures that our diverse experiences are valued and respected.

Duties at a glance:

  • To ensure Mechanical plant operations are maintained to provide the correct service and environmental conditions within the Trust Estate.
  • Working with your Mechanical manager and colleagues, deliver the repair and Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) mechanical service activity to ensure compliance with statute and best practice, and customer satisfaction.
  • Carry out complex/non-routine/routine mechanical work on engineering services, equipment and systems, working in other trades as necessary, in accordance with current regulations and legislation
  • This is a “hands-on” position and you will require the physical skills to carry out planned maintenance and reactive tasks.
  • This role includes on call duties, and some flexibility with start and finish times will be required dependent upon clinical operational restrictions

Person specification

Knowledge and experience

Essential

  • • Experience of multi skilled trades acquired through training / experience
  • • Experienced in the use of IT based control systems
  • • Evidence of recent and relevant CPD
  • • Experience in writing and compiling reports.
  • • Knowledge / awareness of asbestos, water, electrical and mechanical safety
  • • Holds a current driving licence

Desirable

  • Specialist knowledge/experience in mechanical systems – ie steam, water, air conditioning, ventilation,
  • Knowledge and experience of electrical services
  • Knowledge of works within hospital environments
  • Knowledge of NHS Technical Guidance

Qualifications and training

Essential

  • Knowledge of a full range of trade procedures acquired through a 4 year accredited training course on required equipment; or level 3 vocational qualification or equivalent plus relevant or equivalent experience

Desirable

  • Specialist knowledge/experience in mechanical systems – ie steam, water, air conditioning, ventilation,
