Job overview

This is an 18 month Apprenticeship opportunity in the Endoscopy Decontamination Units for one Apprentice at Royal Hallamshire Hospital and Northern General Hospital.

The Royal Hallamshire unit operates between the hours of 7.30am – 8.00pm Monday to Friday, the Northern General unit operates within the hours of 8.00am – 10.00pm Monday – Thursday, 8.00am – 8.00pm Friday and 10.00am – 6.00pm Saturday.

As this is an Apprentice role the post holder will be Supervised at all times they may be required to work on either of the Trusts sites where decontamination services are performed.

The holder will train alongside the technicians and be provided with support from the department Supervisors and the Decontamination Manager.

Main duties of the job

To reach the targets and goals required by the Trust Decontamination Manager in line with the National standards and support the development of a quality system to ensure the highest standards are met for the services users and in turn for the patients of the Trust.

To ensure all scopes required for use are collected, decontaminated and returned within the agreed time limit, to assist all service users in the provision of their Service and in the event of a fast-track requirement.

  • Educated to GCSE (or equivalent) grade 4/C or above in English and Maths

  • Wiling to learn

Skills and Knowledge

  • Ability to communicate to all levels within the Trust
  • Willing to complete the Decontamination training programme for AFC band 3 including off site training courses specific for their role

Apprenticeship Eligibility

Essential

  • Must have been a UK, EEA or EU resident for the last 3 years
  • Must have visa/residency status which covers the duration of the apprenticeship plus 3 months which will be 18 months
  • Must not be overqualified for the apprenticeship. If they already have a qualification or degree in Healthcare Science or something similar, then they will not be suitable for the apprenticeship.
