The Education Teaching Fellow/ Surgical Teaching Fellow posts are designed to develop the career of clinicians with an interest in leadership and medical education. The posts offer development opportunities in medical education for 12 months before the Fellow returns to training/clinical work in their own specialty.
Successful applicants will be offered either an Education Teaching Fellow post or a Surgical Teaching Fellow post, dependent on their career aspirations and interest. Please read the job description for each role and indicate, in your supporting information which role you would prefer to be considered for.
Applicants for either role must be able to demonstrate an established interest in medical education, for example through previous teaching or postgraduate qualifications.

All Fellows will be involved in medical education project work and undergraduate teaching.
The Education Teaching Fellow role has more focus on education projects and research with some bedside teaching for Phase 1 (year 2 students).
The Surgical Teaching Fellow principally supports Year 3 undergraduate teaching and will be a combination of informal bedside teaching and more formal tutorial/seminar based teaching. There will be some opportunities to undertake project work.

While much of the learning will be experiential, it will be supported by a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Education or Leadership. Time and resources (up to a set value) will be provided to facilitate this.

Please note, whilst the role is non-clinical, it is expected that the candidate will take part in some clinical activities during their self-development time in order to maintain skills and complete an annual appraisal with their supervisor at the end of the post. NB: this does not apply if the postholder is undertaking an OOPE
