An exciting secondment opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Band 6 health professional to join our experienced Specialist Movement Disorder Team as a Dystonia Specialist Nurse. This is a 12-month full-time secondment opportunity, working alongside a highly skilled and experienced team of Dystonia Specialist Nurses.

If you have experience working with dystonia, movement disorders or long-term neurological conditions, and are enthusiastic about developing your skills in this specialist area, this role could be an excellent opportunity for you.

This is a highly specialised area of practice within movement disorders, and full training and support will be provided. Following completion of the training programme, you will use your knowledge, skills and experience to deliver a specialist dystonia service and provide high-quality patient care. The role will involve working both autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team under the direction of the Band 7 Nurse and Consultant team.

This is a diverse and rewarding role that requires sound judgement, discretion and decision-making skills to support and guide clinical care across a variety of settings. You will work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team across the Trust to provide specialist advice, support and education.

Main duties of the job

• Provide specialist assessment, treatment and ongoing management for patients with dystonia and hemifacial spasm
• Deliver nurse-led clinics and specialist interventions in accordance with agreed protocols, guidelines and scope of practice
• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised care programmes for patients accessing the service
• Act as a key point of contact for patients, carers and healthcare professionals, providing expert advice, guidance and support
• Provide education, support and health promotion to patients, carers and healthcare professionals to facilitate informed decision-making and self-management
• Undertake specialist procedures and support the safe delivery, administration and monitoring of treatments, including botulinum toxin therapy where appropriate
• Manage and prioritise a specialist caseload, ensuring timely intervention and effective use of available resources
• Contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives and the implementation of evidence-based practice
• Participate in clinical audit, research and governance activities to support continuous improvement in patient care and service delivery
• Provide leadership, mentorship and clinical supervision to colleagues, students and learners within the specialty

The successful applicant will be keen to develop their specialist practice, leadership skills and expertise within this highly specialised field.
