Speech and Language Therapist Dysphagia Assistant – Band 4

The Speech and Language Therapy Service in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent provides assessment and treatment for adults with communication and/or swallowing difficulties in community settings, including patients’ own homes. We offer dysphagia, communication, and voice assessment and intervention, supported by strong leadership and compassionate management.

We have an exciting permanent Band 4 role available, created due to internal team progression. The role is 37.5 hours per week and will cover our North Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent patch, with the base at Bentilee.

What We’re Looking for

We are looking for an enthusiastic, proactive and highly motivated therapy assistant who is passionate about delivering excellent patient care. The successful candidate will be confident travelling to see patients in community locations and care homes, and will be able to build effective, supportive relationships with patients, carers and families. You will provide intervention and support through a range of delivery methods, ensuring high-quality, person-centred care at all times.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Experienced Speech and Language Therapy Assistant Practitioner with specialist knowledge and practical skills relevant to supporting adults with acquired dysphagia or a willingness to undertake the relevant training.
  • Able to work autonomously under the supervision of a registered Speech and Language Therapist, taking responsibility for a defined caseload of service users across a range of clinical environments, including community settings and Nursing/Care Homes.
  • Skilled in the delivery, monitoring and evaluation of care and support programmes, following clinical guidance and contributing to treatment planning and outcomes.
  • Committed to continuous professional development with a willingness to undertake relevant post-registration training to enhance clinical practice and service delivery.
  • Dedicated to professional learning and collaboration through active engagement with Clinical Excellence Networks and other relevant development forums.
