Applicants must be able to achieve a high standard of cleanliness, and provide a clean and safe hospital environment for staff, patients and visitors in accordance with the National Standards of Cleanliness and customers care. Full training will be given to the successful applicants.
Duties include but not limited to – Emptying of bins, vacuum cleaning, mopping, buffing/scrubbing of floors, damp dusting all furniture/fittings, replenishing and cleaning of all sanitary areas.

Main duties of the job
Cleaning duties including mopping and buffing, ensuring NHS National Standards of Cleanliness are being met. Some duties include:
- Undertake a range of cleaning tasks in both a clinical and non-clinical setting in accordance with the National Standards of Cleanliness
- Ensure all cleaning equipment and cleaning cupboards are clean, tidy and well maintained at all times
- Replenish dispensers in all areas including toilet paper, hand towels, soap and alcohol gel etc.
- Empty all waste receptacles and replace with a clean bag (if appropriate) as determined by the waste categorisation in line with Trust policy. All bags of waste must be placed in the nearest bin compound in the lockable waste bin (either clinical / domestic / cardboard)
- Changing of window and bed curtains on a frequency in line with the National Standards of Cleanliness. In all circumstances, when changing curtains, two members of staff must work together adhering to health and safety risk assessment

Knowledge
Essential
- Basic Knowledge of Health & Safety
- Food Safety Act 1990
- National Standards of Cleanliness

- Infection prevention and control
- Domestic and clinical waste disposal procedures
Experience
Essential
- • Previous cleaning and/or catering experience
- • Ability to use a computer to input data, send and receive emails, and undertake e-learning
Desirable
- • Working in a hospital or healthcare setting
Qualifications
Essential
- • GCSE or equivalent in English and Mathematics
- • Food Safety Level 2
- • Basic IT Level 1
- • Commit to completing a competency workbook within 12 months
Desirable
- • Committed to complete a NVQ Level 2 in Cleaning and Support Services within 18 months of employment
Skills/ Abilities
Essential
- Ability to understand and adhere to standards and procedures
- Ability to work as a team member
- Possess excellent hygiene standards
- Good interpersonal skills
- Communication skills both verbally and written
- Ability to operate cleaning machinery
Desirable
- Able to acquire new skills and willing to work towards and achieve an appropriate qualification
