Kingswell Surgery is seeking an experienced NVQ-qualified Dispenser to join our friendly and dedicated team on a part time basis with the actual number of hours negotiable. A willingness to provide cover for colleagues leave is essential.
Main duties of the job
- NVQ Level 2 in Dispensary Services or an equivalent pharmacy services qualification
- A minimum of 2 years experience in a dispensary or pharmacy setting
- Previous experience working as a dispenser within a GP practice
- Strong clinical and medication knowledge relevant to the role
- A commitment to ongoing learning and professional development
- Confidence working within a busy, multi-disciplinary GP practice team
- The ability to use your own initiative and make sound decisions
- Adaptability and a flexible approach to daily tasks
- Excellent patient-facing and interpersonal communication skills

About us
Kingswell Surgery is a busy and friendly dispensing practice in rural Penistone, caring for approximately 6000 patients. We are part of the Barnsley PCN and fall under South Yorkshire ICB.
Our practice team currently includes 2 GP Partners, 3 salaried GPs, 2 Practice Nurses, 3 Healthcare Assistants, 1 pharmacist, 2 Dispensers and an administration/reception team.

Job responsibilities
As a valued member of our dispensary team, your key responsibilities will include:
- Accurately dispensing and checking medicines for our patient population
- Collecting prescription charges in line with protocol
- Maintaining stock levels and supporting reordering processes
- Receiving and storing supplies, ensuring correct handling and cold-chain compliance
- Dispensing controlled drugs in accordance with practice policy
- Safe disposal of returned and out-of-date medication
- Processing repeat prescriptions within our 48-hour target
- Providing clear, helpful advice to patients about their prescriptions
- Managing prescription requests via email, telephone, online systems and face-to-face
- Supporting monthly dispensary returns
- Maintaining accurate records and following all Standard Operating Procedures
- Helping maintain a clean, safe and organised dispensary environment
- Providing cover for colleagues annual or sick leave
