Main duties of the job
This post is an ideal opportunity for those looking to gain hospital experience and also to those that already have and enjoy this type of environment.
On a day to day basis, your duties will vary and help provide a high quality service to our patients whether this be provided customer service, dispensing medicines or ordering and receiving pharmacy stock.
You will also develop positive working relationships with our fantastic colleagues and multidisciplinary team and be a valued member of the company.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Dispensing medications
- Stock control, stock rotation, expiry date checking and use of the Pharmacy IT System
- Provides an effective reception service, receiving incoming work and dealing with customer enquiries.
- Maintains stock of dispensing sundries and carries out housekeeping duties to maintain good environmental standards.
- Supports the training and development of pharmacy team
The core hours of duty are an 9 hour shift from 08:30am - 18:00 Monday to Friday (36 hours weekly over 4 days). Applicants will be expected to participate in weekend work (Saturday only) on a rota basis
This role is based in LTH between Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley District Hospital
Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- Experience of working in a team
- Good telephone/ communication skills
- Computer literate including good keyboard skills
- Knowledge of stock control systems
Desirable
- Experience of working in pharmacy
- Experience of working in a customer facing role
- Experience of working in a busy environment.
Qualifications and Education
Essential
- 2 GCSE Passes Grade C or above (or equivalent) must include Maths and English
- NVQ Level 2 Pharmacy Services
Desirable
- Outpatient Pharmacy experience
