Job summary
We are looking for a friendly, reliable and motivated individual to join our busy dispensing team on a part-time basis for 27 hours per week, with the flexibility to provide additional cover for holidays and sickness throughout the week.
The successful candidate will assist in the safe and accurate dispensing of medication to patients, provide excellent customer service, and support the smooth day-to-day running of the dispensary.
Ideally you will be qualified to NVQ Level 2,however, applications are also welcomed from non-qualified candidates who are enthusiastic, keen to learn a new skill, and interested in developing a long-term career within dispensing and primary care. Full training and support will be provided for the right candidate.
Main duties of the job
The main duties will include:
- Issue and dispense acute and repeat prescriptions.
- Order medication for stock.
- Unpack deliveries and check invoices, putting stock away and rotating the shelves.
- Fulfil weekly dosette boxes.
- Order, receive and dispenser controlled drugs.
- Promote outstanding patient service and offer appropriate information and advice to patients and their carers within your scope.
- As a team contribute to the annual DSQS audit.

The Old School Surgery is a small, friendly rural dispensing practice caring for approximately 3,500 patients which is beautifully situated alongside the Kennet & Avon Canal in the North Wessex Downs, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The village benefits from direct train links to London, nearby motorway connections,excellent local schools, and easy access to Savernake Forest and the market towns of Marlborough and Hungerford. Job responsibilities
Job Responsibilities:
Issue and dispense repeat prescriptions as required from patient online requests, paper repeat slips and tasks from GPs.
Dispense acute prescriptions from GPs surgery.
Fulfil weekly dosette boxes checking they are correct and complete prior to collection.
Order, record and dispense controlled drugs.
Improve profitability by accurate ordering of stock ensuring best value.
Unpack deliveries and check invoices, stack the shelves rotating stock and checking for out of date stock.
Promote outstanding customer service and offer appropriate information and advice to patients and their carers within your scope.
Ensure the dispensary has a high level of hygiene ensuring you are working safely in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Operate efficient stock control ensuring continuous supply for the patients whilst minimising wastage through out of date stock.
Maintain a temperature control log for refrigerated medication and ensure they are stored at the appropriate temperature at all times.
Record and report any incidents, significant events or drug errors.
Take part in the disposal of any controlled drugs where necessary.
As a team take part in the annual DSQS audit.
