Job summary

We are a small friendly dispensing General Practice with a team of 5 dispensers, looking for an extra member to join us.

Main duties of the job

  • To accurately prepare, label and dispense medication according to GP Prescriptions. Must have high attention to detail.
  • To have excellent communication skills and patience, to present a calm & friendly image to patients.

  • To be reliable and flexible.
  • To observe strict confidentiality on all matters relating to the Practice and its patients
  • Undertake any additional duties appropriate to the post as requested by the Partners or the Practice Manager.
  • Help out with reception duties as reasonably required by the Practice Manager.

Job responsibilities

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OF POST:

  • Ability to use own judgement, resourcefulness and to be able to work under pressure without direct supervision.
  • To be a key link between clinicians and patients, handling patient queries confidently and effectively.
  • To observe strict confidentiality on all matters relating to the Practice and its patients.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To ensure that all medicines dispensed are checked against the prescription, and whenever there is any doubt, to check with authorising Doctor.
  • To collect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is filled in and signed by the patient.
  • To promptly forward all invoices and dispensary related correspondence to the Prescribing & Finance Manager.
  • Ordering appropriate quantities of goods via the wholesalers computer link.
  • Checking goods as and when they are delivered and recording generic details. Returning incorrect goods to the wholesalers.
  • Stocking shelves, refrigerators and other storage areas using rotation method.
  • Removing out of date stock from the shelves, refrigerators and other storage areas.
  • To ensure that drugs are stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with the accompanying instructions.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations, maintain a clean dispensary, and follow cold chain protocols for refrigerated items.
  • To maintain full and accurate records of all dispensing transactions appropriately on the patients records.
  • Action repeat prescription requests and ensure that the appropriate medicine is available. If not action ordering of drug. Ensure prescription is available for collection within 48 hours.
  • Collaborate with GPs, nurses, dispensary manager and Practice Manager, attending relevant training.
  • To complete all paperwork as required to be compliant with the Dispensing of Controlled Drugs and help line manager with weekly reconciliation of controlled drugs.
