The Role
Due to ongoing service improvement and redesign, our innovative and forward-thinking Acute Dietetic teams are seeking to recruit three enthusiastic Band 5 Dietitians, with one post based at each of our acute hospital sites:
- University Hospital Hairmyres
- University Hospital Monklands
- University Hospital Wishaw
This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established and supportive Dietetic service within NHS Lanarkshire. These posts are ideal for individuals looking to gain broad clinical experience across a range of specialties while being fully supported through structured training, supervision, and mentorship from an experienced multidisciplinary team.
Cross-site working to support Dietetic Teams in the other Acute Hospitals may be required. All three hospital sites benefit from excellent transport links across the Central Belt
The roles offer a varied caseload including: Enteral feeding and nutritional support, Medical and gastroenterology dietetics, Care of the elderly, Oncology, surgical, and orthopaedic dietetics. With opportunities to develop digital dietetic skills.
We welcome applications from candidates seeking full-time or part-time working patterns. Applicants currently working in other settings or specialties are encouraged to apply, comprehensive training and support will be provided to facilitate transition into acute dietetics.
Please note this is a fixed term post for 12 months. Where a post only has temporary funding and an existing member of NHS Lanarkshire staff wishes to apply, this will be treated as a secondment. The employee MUST already have written agreement from their line manager to be released on a secondment before applying for the post.
In this key role, you will:
To act as an independent practitioner assessing, managing, planning, delivering and evaluating the most appropriate treatment programmes for patients, using appropriate nutritional assessment techniques and equipment, working within established protocols. The post holder decides when it is necessary to refer to his/her manager.
To receive complex and sensitive information and present this in an understandable form to patients and carers which can include giving unwelcome and difficult to accept information.
Advise and recommend the use of prescribable preparations and nutritional products for the treatment of patients as appropriate. Ensure supplies of products reach his/her patients through instruction to diet chefs verbally and through maintenance of the diet therapy ordering system. Also, be responsible for reporting any stock discrepancies to the dietetic services manager e.g. out of date stock, reduction in stock items or lack of stock items.
Keep accurate and concise records of clinical interventions, advice given and outcome decisions taken as per professional code of conduct and departmental guidelines.
What You'll Bring:
- Registered Dietitian with valid HCPC Registration
- The post holder will be required to demonstrate excellent team working skills with the ability to work using own initiative
- Effective listening, communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work with people and as part of a multidisciplinary team
