We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity to undergraduate qualifying radiographers as well as radiographers with NHS experience to join our X-ray department at RNOH.

The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust is the largest specialist orthopaedic Trust in the UK with a world renowned reputation. We are seeking a highly motivated qualified and experienced radiographer to join our friendly and dedicated team. The successful candidate will be required to rotate through all our sites - Stanmore and Bolsover St.

Participation in provision of the out of hour’s service is required, as is flexible working to include evening and weekend hours. The post holder will also be involved in the provision of weekdays and weekend on call duties. The Trust accommodates flexible working and part time working.

The X-ray department has 5 general x-ray rooms (3 at the main site in Stanmore and 2 at Bolsover St. in Central London)  1 fluoroscopy unit, 5 portable ward machines, Loop X, 2 O-arm units, 1 Cios Spin unit, a DEXA scanner and 15 theatre image intensifiers. We have also installed EOS scanner and HiRise Ped CT scanner, recently. There will be opportunity to train in both scanners.

The X-ray department opens at 08:00 and closes at 20:30 Monday to Friday and there’s a reduced service on Saturdays with on- call cover during out of hours. The department is closed on Sundays and bank holidays.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will mainly work in Outpatients /In-patient general x-ray area, fluoroscopy, theatres, EOS scanning, HiRise Ped CT scanning and DXA depending on the needs of the department. You will be expected to provide high quality diagnostic images whilst ensuring patient care and safety is paramount.

You will work closely with other members of the team including radiologists, radiographers and assistants and will be involved in the teaching of students and more junior members of staff.

You will be an integral part of the smooth running of the imaging service and communicate effectively with a wide range of staff and patient groups.

You will be expected to manage your workload effectively, applying knowledge and skill to produce high quality images and adapt techniques to meet complex patient requirements.

A training plan is provided to facilitate development of skills and competencies to become a Band 6 within 12 to 18 months after starting employment at Band 5 level.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will be clinically responsible to the Consultant Radiologists and be expected to perform a wide range of X-ray procedures.

Working closely with colleagues you will manage the day to day running of the area you are working in and liaise with other teams and staff members to ensure the effective use of the imaging service.

You will work according to Trust and departmental level protocols and ensure you comply with IRMER17 and IRR17 regulations at all times, ensuring all patient radiation doses are as low as possible and that every exposure is justified.

You will ensure the safety of all patients and staff who enter the radiation controlled areas.

You will be expected to keep accurate patient records and manage patient images on PACS
