The role:
The South West Sector is seeking an experienced and motivated Radiographer to undertake the role of Interventional Radiology Modality Lead, based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, with responsibility for services at Gartnavel General Hospital.
The QEUH is the largest acute hospital campus in Scotland and one of the largest in the UK. It is the designated Major Trauma Centre for the West of Scotland and the regional site for stroke thrombectomy. The IR service operates across three Canon Infinix interventional laboratories (two hybrid theatres) and a Siemens Artis Zee system at QEUH, alongside a newly installed GE Allia IGS 740 system at Gartnavel General Hospital.
The service delivers a broad and complex acute interventional workload including major trauma, vascular, oncology, urology, gastroenterology and colorectal procedures, receiving vascular and non-vascular referrals from across NHSGGC and nationally. In addition, the service provides a well-established radiographer and nurse-led nephrostomy exchange service, highlighting extended scope within the team.
This is a leadership role requiring strong operational management capability, radiographic clinical expertise and the ability to influence across multidisciplinary pathways.
The department hosts approximately 95 student placements annually within a progressive and supportive learning environment. You will liaise closely with university partners and practice educators to ensure high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate clinical training, while maintaining a strong commitment to staff development.
NHSGGC actively promotes continuing professional development, including opportunities for postgraduate study at MSc level in Diagnostic Imaging or Advanced Practice through Glasgow Caledonian University, supported by an annual staff bursary scheme. The service maintains a strong culture of quality improvement and professional engagement, including weekly SCoR-accredited CPD sessions.
