Main duties of the job
- Deliver specialist midwifery care and diabetes support across antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal pathways.
- Provide education and guidance to women and birthing people newly diagnosed with gestational diabetes, including safe insulin administration.
- Collaborate with the Lead Diabetes Specialist Midwife to review diabetes control, arrange follow-up care, and support service management in their absence.
- Participate in teaching and mentorship for midwives, students, and support staff, ensuring a positive learning environment.
- Maintain high standards of clinical practice through evidence-based care, audit participation, and adherence to Trust policies.
- Contribute to parent education sessions and promote breastfeeding from the antenatal period.
- Ensure accurate record-keeping and compliance with clinical governance, safeguarding, infection control, and health and safety protocols.
