Job overview

We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced Band 6 Registered Nurse to join the friendly and dedicated team at Aylsham Medical Day Unit (AMDU). AMDU is a nurse-led service providing planned care for patients referred from a wide range of specialties across the Acute Trust. Since its establishment in 2018, the service has continued to grow and develop, caring for more than 11,000 patients in the last year alone.

We provide a range of services, including:

  • Blood product transfusions
  • Intravenous iron therapy
  • Outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT)
  • Venesection
  • Day-case biopsies
  • Paracentesis
  • Day-case heart failure assessment and management

Our patients are at the heart of everything we do. We care for patients with both acute and chronic conditions, supporting them to remain in their own homes wherever possible. We aim to avoid unnecessary hospital admissions, facilitate early discharge, promote patient independence and improve patient experience.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide senior clinical leadership within the unit, ensuring safe and efficient patient-centred care.
  • Manage patients with acute and chronic medical conditions, recognising deterioration and escalating appropriately.
  • Safely administer and oversee blood transfusions, IV iron, OPAT, venesection and other ambulatory treatments.
  • Support the delivery of day-case procedures, ensuring appropriate pre- and post-procedure assessment and monitoring.
  • Coordinate patient flow, treatment schedules and discharge, helping to avoid unnecessary hospital admissions.
  • Provide clinical advice and support to Band 5 nurses, HCSWs and students, including delegation and supervision.
  • Liaise closely with consultants, specialist teams and the wider MDT to ensure continuity of care.
  • Promote safe discharge, patient education and self-management, enabling patients to remain at home where appropriate.
