Deputy Head of Energy & Sustainability

Working collaboratively with colleagues across Mid and South Essex FT, the Integrated Care System (ICS), NHS England, and a wide range of stakeholders, you will play a key role in driving forward ambitious Greener NHS energy initiatives.
As a senior member of the Sustainability Team, you will support the Head of Sustainability in delivering both Trust and ICS Green Plans, leading on energy management across the Trust. You will ensure compliance with reporting requirements, identify opportunities to reduce energy consumption, and help deliver measurable environmental and financial benefits.

Main duties of the job
Lead on the delivery, monitoring and evaluation of complex energy and sustainability programmes, ensuring measurable outcomes and alignment with Greener NHS objectives.
Support the implementation of the Trust and Integrated Care System (ICS) Green Plans, with a specific focus on energy management, efficiency and carbon reduction initiatives.
Work collaboratively with colleagues across Mid and South Essex FT, the ICS, NHS England and external stakeholders to drive forward sustainability and energy projects.
Provide specialist expertise on energy performance, sustainability reporting and environmental best practice to support organisational decision-making.
Monitor, analyse and report on energy usage, identifying opportunities to reduce consumption, improve efficiency and deliver cost savings.
Ensure the Trust remains compliant with national sustainability targets, statutory requirements and reporting obligations relating to energy and carbon management.
Support the Head of Sustainability in the strategic development and delivery of the Trust’s sustainability agenda, contributing to service improvement and innovation.
Deputise for the Head of Sustainability as required, providing leadership, expert advice and representation at internal and external meetings.

Qualifications
Essential
- Educated to master’s degree or equivalent specialist knowledge and experience plus additional specialist knowledge acquired through post graduate courses and experience to master’s degree level
- Cert in Energy management essentials, Energy management professional, Advanced energy manager or Chartered Energy Manager (CEM)
Desirable
- Member of a professional organisation i.e.: Energy Institute, Building Better Business Cases Practitioner (APMG International)
- Master’s degree in environmental science, Energy engineering, Sustainable energy or Climate Change
Knowledge & Experience
Essential
- Managing strategic and operational change. Including the impact on assets, resources, services & staff and developing new ways of working
- Experience of writing business cases to acquire grant funding or equivalent expertise
- Experience understanding energy systems and implementing energy-saving measures.
- Evidence of managing and reporting against data analytics in the energy field
- Post qualification experience of project principles techniques and tools such as Prince 2 and Managing Successful Projects
Desirable
- Experience of utilities contract management.
- Awareness of the wider DH/NHS environment, ability to interpret policy and consider impact on services.
- Experience of working on large and small scale energy related projects
- Hospital and Healthcare acute sector environments or large scale systems
