The role:

Join NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde as a Dental Health Support Worker within the Childsmile programme and play a key role in improving the oral health and wellbeing of children and families across Glasgow. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will support families to develop positive health behaviours through practical guidance and tailored interventions. This is a rewarding community-based role where you will engage directly with families in their homes, clinics and local settings. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) may be able to provide visa sponsorship for certain roles, subject to the post meeting the relevant eligibility criteria. Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

  • Glasgow City HSCP
  • The post holder will work across a range of settings, including the family home, Children’s residential care establishments, community and primary care dental service settings, and will facilitate access to oral health promotion, dental preventive and treatment services through all Dental Public Health Programmes
  • Monday to Friday
  • Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part-time hours

Key responsibilities:

  • Engage with families, parents and carers to assess oral health needs and provide tailored support
  • Deliver practical oral health and infant nutrition advice in home and community settings
  • Support families to access dental services and wider health and community resources
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams including health visitors, dental services and health improvement staff
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records in line with organisational policies and systems
  • Promote oral health initiatives such as Childsmile across community groups and partner organisations
  • Identify and report concerns relating to vulnerable families in a timely and appropriate manner

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • SVQ Level 3 in Healthcare or equivalent experience in a caring or community role
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary and multi-agency team
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a compassionate and engaging approach
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to manage workload and prioritise tasks
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision in community settings
  • Full driving licence and willingness to travel across community locations
  • Commitment to continuous professional development including completion of Childsmile training programmes
