Job summary

We are looking for a Data Scientist to join our Performance and Informatics Team, and play a key role in leading and delivering on a range of data science projects within the organisation and wider healthcare system.

You will play a key role in our analogue to digital ambitions, shaping the innovative use of data in decision making, and lead on developing and implementing the Trusts technical approach to Data Science, including artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Our Performance and Informatics Team encompasses several DDAT professionals, including Business Intelligence Developers, Analysts, Performance Managers, Clinical Coders and Data Scientists. You will work at the heart of what we do, using all available data to provide meaningful intelligence.

This is a full-time position of 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with a mixture of onsite & remote working.

Main duties of the job

As a Data Scientist, you will operate with a high degree of autonomy, using your technical, analytical, and problem solving skills to provide meaningful insight. You will be expected to understand business needs and strategic priorities, and to design and deliver informatics solutions that meet them.

You will be central to promoting data-driven decision making within the organisation, liaising with leads across the Trust to explore opportunities for utilising data differently for the purposes of providing excellent patient care and outcomes.

You will also play a key role in identification and best use of new technology, with a particular focus and specialism in utilising technologies in the field of data science. You will work with the senior Performance and Informatics Team to drive change and ensure Informatics products and services are delivered with excellence.

Job responsibilities

The successful candidate will be an excellent problem solver, with highly developed technical and analytical skills. You must be qualified in Data Science, and ready to use your expert knowledge and skills to help our organisation meet its objectives.

You will have significant experience as a DDAT professional in the NHS, and be comfortable working with fellow professionals in a fast-paced environment.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Highly developed knowledge of analytical methodologies
  • In depth knowledge of NHS Information requirements and data flows

Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience of working in an Informatics environment within the NHS
  • Significant experience of using advanced statistics methods and complex quantitative analysis
  • Experience of working with statistical packages such as Python or R
  • Experience of leading and delivering projects

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to Masters degree level in Data Science, or working towards this qualification
  • I understand that I will be asked to provide original certificates to verify my qualifications at point of offer.

  • Highly proficient advanced statistics methods and complex quantitative analysis
  • Willingness and enthusiasm to learn new analytical methods and technologies

  • Must be able to travel regularly within the geographical area served by the Trust, and very occasionally further afield within the UK
