An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Eating Disorder and Mental Health Dietitian to work within the CYP Tier 4 CHEDS Eating Disorder Service based at Ancora House in Chester.

We are seeking to appoint a skilled and experienced dietitian with a genuine interest in working with young people and their families within these specialist services, someone who has a commitment to undertaking specialist assessments and providing evidence-based advice to the multi-disciplinary team.

The role will cover the dietetic provision for young people and their families / carers within the Integrated Eating Disorder Service, which comprises of out-patients, Sapphire Day Service and the Intensive Eating Disorder Unit (Sapphire). It also covers dietetic provision for the 2 general adolescent wards in Ancora House, offering support to the young people, their families along with ward staff to best support during the in-patient stay.

The post-holder will be offered opportunity for continued professional development within a specialist and well established multi-disciplinary service. Our service has a strong commitment to professional development through individual supervision, training, appraisal and an ethos of close multi-disciplinary working. There will also be an opportunity for specific eating disorder training.

Main duties of the job

To complete specialist dietetic assessments, develop, deliver and adapt individualised dietetic treatment programmes and refeeding plans. To differentiate between fear foods and true sensory preferences and consider the impact of these as well as long-standing lifestyle choices / cultural beliefs on the efficacy of the meal plan.

To consider the management and impact of potential physical health and mental health co-morbidities on the development and engagement with treatment.

To work closely with community dietitians, CHEDS MDT / ward staff to ensure that all decisions are evidence-based, communicated effectively to the relevant clinicians and that care plans are aligned with the team’s treatment goals and developed with the young person. To provide appropriate feedback in MDTs across the service for awareness of dietetic progress and goals.

To ensure that practice follows the evidence-based stages of FT-AN and the stages of the CHEDS in-patient programme to support on-going and progress. To provide young people with support and education in relation to reported physical health symptoms, the expectations of the treatment plan, inclusion of fear foods, increased confidence and independence regarding food choices / aversions / freedom.

To provide parents / carers psychoeducation to enable them to best support their child - meal planning, mealtime support, managing negotiations / change, activity levels, compensatory behaviours.
