Liaison and Diversion Practitioner Custody Suites
3 x Long Days per week plus an addition per month. 12 month maternity cover
We have an exciting opportunity for motivated and enthusiastic Band 6 allied health professional to work as an integrated part of the Criminal Justice Liaison and Diversion Team in Northamptonshire.
This role has multiple bases including Criminal Justice Centre Brackmills, Weekly Wood Justice Centre Kettering and county wide community setting.
The role of the Liaison & Diversion Practitioner is to work in partnership with Police, Probation, His Majesty's Court and Tribunal Service and Third Sector organisations in the screening and assessment of offenders pre and post charge in Police Custody, Magistrates Courts and other Criminal Justice locations.
The post holder will be required to work on a 7 day per week rota. Service operates between 08:00-20:00. Weekend working will be on a roster basis.
This post requires Police Vetting Clearance.
Main duties of the job
The Liaison & Diversion Service is an all age, all vulnerability model and will screen identified individuals and advise partner agencies on their needs and the potential impact on their offending behaviour to help identify appropriate custodial or alternative to custody options. The practitioner will demonstrate an understanding of mental health assessments and the health needs of offenders and will work closely alongside partner agencies to promote the safety and the well- being of offenders, their families/carers and the wider public. The post holder will assess and, where appropriate, refer to Primary and/or Secondary and/or Third Sector organisations based on any identified need alongside providing advice and support to the criminal justice process.

Skills & Knowledge
Essential
- • In depth knowledge and expertise of assessment, treatment interventions and complex procedures.
- • Advanced understanding of complex needs/challenging behaviour in relation to care.
- • Knowledge and good understanding of the care management process and eligibility criteria, Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act.
Desirable
- • Skills in working with those with needs arising from neurodiversity
- • Awareness or experience in working with offenders
- • Awareness or experience in working with the Criminal Justice System
Qualification & Experience
Essential
- • Registered Degree Level with mental health knowledge and experience – Mental Health Nurse, Learning Disability Nurse or Social Worker
- • Experience of working with those with complex health and social care needs.
- • Experience of working with service users in crisis.
- • Some experience of liaising effectively with a variety of people/organisations.
Desirable
- • Experience of working within community setting
- • Experience of writing and reviewing policy/procedures.
- • Experience of working in the criminal justice system or forensic services
