Job overview

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a passionate, dynamic and forward-thinking stroke team at a pivotal and genuinely exciting time for Airedale. We are strengthening our collaboration with Bradford to deliver a robust, sustainable and truly integrated stroke service for our local population—creating a model that is both innovative and future-proof.

We are recruiting a third Consultant to join the team, as one of our  valued colleagues transitions to reduced hours through a  retire-and-return arrangement. You will therefore play a crucial role in  enhancing capacity, strengthening resilience, and driving continued  service development.

We recognise that Consultants thrive when they can pursue their  specialist interests. As part of this role, there may be opportunities to  develop and deliver additional specialist services depending on your  skills and aspirations—these could include: • Neurology • Neuro-rehabilitation • Elderly Medicine We are committed to supporting you to grow, innovate and shape the  service around what you do best.

Main duties of the job

Our team works across two sites, giving our clinicians broad exposure  and the opportunity to work across the full continuum of stroke care:

  • Bradford Royal Infirmary – providing hyperacute stroke services for  our population. • Airedale General Hospital – home to our acute stroke and stroke  rehabilitation services.

This is a 10PA role, but we warmly welcome applicants seeking less than full-time opportunities. What is essential is participation in the 1-in-6 on-call rota for our thrombolysis service.

  • Work collaboratively within a strong multidisciplinary team, including specialist nurses, therapists and colleagues from across medical specialties, to deliver safe, person-centred stroke care. • Offer expert input into inpatient referrals from other medical wards, including the Acute Assessment Unit, ensuring timely and appropriate clinical decision-making. • Provide clinical supervision and support to Resident Doctors and other junior medical staff, contributing to their development, education and wellbeing. • Participate actively in clinical governance, including audit, quality improvement, morbidity and mortality processes, and service development initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and service sustainability. • Meet professional registration requirements, including full GMC registration with a current Licence to Practice, and entry on the Specialist Register (or within six months of achieving CCT/equivalent at the time of interview).
