Position:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant in Rheumatology based at University Hospital Ayr. This post is offered on a permanent basis.

Hours:

40 hours per week.

From 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will reduce from 37 to 36 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.

UK Driving Licence:

A UK driving licence is essential for this role.

What you will do:

We are seeking a Consultant in Rheumatology to join our Rheumatology team based at University Hospital Ayr. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with a commitment to continuous service improvement, and expertise in multidisciplinary working.

About Our Team:

You will be joining a supportive and dynamic team comprising:

• 3 Consultants
• A Specialty Doctor
• 2 Rheumatology Clinical Nurse Specialists
• A dedicated group of Rheumatology allied health professionals

We have strong teaching and research links with the University of Glasgow and Glasgow teaching hospitals, offering opportunities for academic collaboration and professional development.

The Terms and Conditions of service are those determined by the Terms and Conditions of the New Consultant Contract (Scotland) 2004. The post is offered on a 10 programmed activity basis with 2 SPAs. Opportunities may exist for Extra Programmed Activities subject to service requirements. Applications from individuals who may wish to work on a part-time or job share basis will be welcomed.

Knowledge, training and/or experience required for this post:

Appropriately experienced applicants must hold Full GMC Registration with a current Licence to Practice, and must be on the Specialist Register, or be within 6 months of the anticipated award of CCT/CESR. Accreditation in Rheumatology is essential.

Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential to this role.
