We are looking for a dynamic and forward-thinking Consultant Radiologist to work within the Medical Imaging team.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic and cohesive team of 18 Consultant Radiologists within the Medical Imaging Department at Leighton Hospital which is part of the Diagnostic and Clinical Support Services Division
The post holder will be expected to provide a general radiological service comprising CT, MRI, ultrasound and plain film reporting. A subspecialty interestwould be preferred but there is ample opportunity to develop a subspecialty interest, and this would be actively encouraged.
Applicants must have full registration with the GMC including a License to Practice and be on the Specialist Register (or be within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training).
Shortlisted candidates will be expected to visit the department prior to interview.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will participate in a 1 in 15 on-call rota, which is partially supported by Specialist Trainees. A remote reporting service for CT operates independently from the on-call radiologist between 2000 - 0900 hrs during the week and from 1700 - 0900 hrs at the weekend.
The post holder will be expected to:
- Be actively involved in the leadership, management and decision making of the Radiology Department
- Be available during the working week so that medical and nursing staff can communicate and consult freely
- Ensure that management plans are clearly displayed in the notes of patients with complex needs
- Liaise closely with the Divisional and Service Managers, and the Associate Medical Director, to ensure that waiting list targets are achieved.
- Share with Consultant colleagues the responsibility for providing clinical services for the local population
- Foster relationships between staff within each organisation, and also with the local Clinical Commissioning Groups
- Work flexibly to achieve high quality care
- Ensure targets for maintaining access to Radiology services are achieved.
- Ensure the policies for communication with General Practitioners, Trust staff and patients are followed
- Ensure that optimal use is made of all resources allocated to the post
- Cover Consultant colleagues during periods of leave.
- Contribute to relevant Divisional, Trust and Regional Committees.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post is offered at 10 PA but under the terms of the 2003 Consultant Contract, candidates who wish to conduct private practice would be required to offer an additional programmed activity.
Direct Patient Care (DPC): 8 PAs (includes all clinical activity, clinically related administration activity, predictable and unpredictable on call duties)
Supporting Professional Activities (SPA): 2 PA per week to undertake activities such as teaching, training, education, CPD (including reading journals), clinical audit, appraisal and service development.
