Consultant Radiologist

NHS Lanarkshire

NHS Lanarkshire invites applications for a Consultant Radiologist post to join our team of over 40 Consultant colleagues.

The post is preferably for a Chest Radiologist, proficient with general radiology, Soft tissue US and non-vascular Interventional Radiology.

NHS Lanarkshire has three acute hospital sites, University Hospital Wishaw, Monklands and Hairmyres. The successful applicant(s) will be appointed to an NHS Lanarkshire post but will be based primarily at a hospital of the candidate’s preference and specialty interests.

The successful applicant(s) will participate in an OOH diagnostic radiology on call rota for general plain film, USS and CT (frequency being 1:10 to 1:12). The overnight on-call service is outsourced.

We would particularly welcome applicants with an interest in Chest radiology. However, we also strongly encourage applicants to apply who have other sub-specialty interests which they wish to pursue and further develop.

The post is part of a pan-Lanarkshire service but by being site based, you will mainly work in the local team.

Lanarkshire is part of the West of Scotland Clinical Network and the majority of the MDTs work closely with Regional Cancer MDTs. Participation in the weekly Respiratory MDT is necessary. Each hospital has strong links with Glasgow University and the University of Strathclyde. Under- and post-graduate education is an important part of the posts and many consultants are honorary Senior Lecturers at Glasgow University.

NHS Lanarkshire is situated to the east, south and south-west of Glasgow, Scotland’s largest city with extensive Leisure, Sport and Entertainment facilities. It is in the beautiful Clyde Valley. The Ayrshire coast, Edinburgh, the Trossach’s National Park and the Scottish Borders are all nearby. Glasgow, Prestwick and Edinburgh International Airports are within an hour’s drive. Good schools and comparatively affordable housing are readily available.

The post is advertised as a full-time post on a 10 PA basis (including up to 2 non-DCC) but applications will be considered from those wishing to work less than full-time. If full-time, up to 2 EPA’s may be available to undertake additional clinical activity.

The University of Glasgow enjoys close links with NHS Lanarkshire, and our medical students benefit greatly from the excellent educational opportunities provided by the board in both primary and secondary care. Those who are or who will be involved in teaching our students, or in any other activity which involves a contribution to teaching, research or scholarship within the University are eligible for honorary status at the University of Glasgow.

Honorary Status Role Holders are entitled to numerous benefits including a University of Glasgow ID card, use of the Library and other facilities, and a University IT account as required for their role. They have access to all courses run by the IT Services on the same basis as members of staff and are also permitted an educational discount when PC equipment is purchased through the IT Services.

If you are interested in a rewarding career which offers variety and challenge whilst working within a cohesive team we would strongly recommend you arrange a visit or simply an informal chat by contacting:
