Job overview

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is seeking to appoint a Consultant Radiologist with a specialist interest in Uroradiology to join our busy and expanding department. The post will be predominantly based at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, with responsibilities extending across both hospital sites.

All consultants have dedicated sessions for acute imaging, as well as protected time for specialist imaging, MDT preparation, MDT administration, and MDT participation. To maintain a broad and balanced skill set, job plans also include core imaging modalities such as ultrasound, acute CT, acute MRI, and plain film.

The department hosts rotating registrars from University Hospitals of North Midlands (UHNM) and offers a wide range of teaching opportunities for radiographers, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, and other clinical staff.

Contribution to an out of hours on call rota is core to this role.

Main duties of the job

  • Support the acute hospitals, imaging common acute conditions, with plain film, CT, MRI and ultrasound to consistently high standard.
  • To be a core member of the busy and face paced urology MDT, reporting specialist urology studies, collaborating on improving pathways and presenting patients at MDT. Confident in diagnosis and management of renal, bladder, prostate, penile and testicular cancer.
  • To provide clinical radiology advice to our hospital doctors, wider members of the MDT, our local GPs, face by face, by phone and email – ensuring the patients of Shropshire get the right test.
  • Support and guide radiographers and sonographers, working together to improve imaging techniques.
  • Willingness to participate in trials.
  • To attend and participate in REALM, peer review and audit meetings, to use clinical governance mechanisms to constantly improve our services.
  • To develop enhanced clinical skills, especially in the assessment and management of acutely ill patients.
  • To have excellent team-working skills with the abilities and professional attitude to work well in a multi-professional team.
  • To deliver clinical and quality targets agreed both nationally and locally with clinical teams and commissioners.
  • To follow patients throughout their clinical pathways.

Entry Criteria

Essential

  • Full Registration and a licence to practise with the General Medical Council (GMC)
  • Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register via one of the following: Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (the proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview) OR Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration
  • Confidence in a fast-paced MDT environment
  • Understanding of the diagnosis treatment and management of renal, prostate, bladder, testes and penile cancers
  • Confident reporting US, CT and MRI imaging across the spectrum of benign and malignant urological conditions
  • Knowledge of paediatric urological conditions
  • Interest or experience in supporting trials
  • Supporting faster diagnostic pathways for conditions such as haematuria

Desirable

  • Urological intervention and fluoroscopy are desirable, fluoroscopy may be supervisory only
  • Urogynaecology imaging and pelvic floor imaging expertise
  • Experience in Fluoroscopy

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS, MBChB or equivalent medical qualification
  • FRCR or equivalent
