We're offering an exciting permanent Consultant Psychiatrist role within Jersey's Community Mental Health Services with the flexibility to tailor your job plan to your interests. These roles can be combined with Liaison Psychiatry or Criminal Justice Psychiatry, giving you variety, autonomy, and the chance to make a real impact across different areas of care. We also have a second post for a dual role in In-patient and Home Treatment Team.

Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be expected to provide medical expertise in the field of Adult CMHT Psychiatry. The key responsibilities and expectations are: Responsibility for the investigation, diagnosis, and management of psychiatric disorders in a community setting for patients aged 18-65yr. Providing clinical leadership, support, and advice to the adult community mental health team. Contribution to the Care and Recovery framework process for individuals who are care co-ordinated. Supervising one of the staff grade doctors. Close working relationships with other parts of the mental health care group. Fulfilling the role of Responsible Officer for detained patients on long term leave in the community, working closely with the Mental Health law Office to ensure timely delivery of tribunal reports and other documentation linked to Jersey Mental Health Law. Working collaboratively with service users, families, carers, and the voluntary sector.

Job responsibilities
The CMHT serves people, aged between 18 and 65, who suffer from severe mental illness. Our aim is to help services users achieve their potential by promoting recovery and maintaining wellbeing. Our service users come from a variety of cultural backgrounds and often have challenging and complex needs. The CMHT is a multidisciplinary team, which includes doctors (consultants and staff grades), a clinical psychologist, nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, support workers and administrative staff. There is also a physical health facilitation service to support annual physical health checks
Jersey has a small population of 104,000, and we have a unique opportunity to do some things differently from UK models. The medical cover for the adult CMHT is four consultant psychiatrists (including this job and two whole time equivalent staff grades, which is very favourable compared with similar population size in the UK. By joining our team there is a real opportunity to shape and influence the future provision of services to suit Jersey and provide excellent care for our patients.
There is dedicated administrative support in line with RCPsych standards (0.5 wte medical secretary and team secretarial support). The Consultant has a dedicated individual office at Le Bas Centre. A mobile, PC and laptop are provided, and IT training and support are arranged on arrival with a 1:1 training session and ongoing support available as required.
Cover for leave will be with a leave partner Consultant within the CMHT.
Mental Health Law in Jersey is very similar to the law in England and Wales, but full training will be given at the start of employment.

Person specification
Experience
Essential
- Experience of assessing and treating adult patients in community psychiatric settings
- Experience managing clozapine and depot prescriptions.
- Experience of work in UK hospital systems (or equivalent, not just shadowing)
- Knowledge and evidence of participation in CPD
- A sound understanding of clinical governance
Desirable
- Experience in inpatient psychiatry
- On call experience covering adults and older people
- ADHD/ ASD assessment experience
- Experience using Mental Health Law in community settings.
- Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
Qualifications
Essential
- Recognised basic medical degree
- Full GMC registration
- To have obtained CCT and be on specialist register
- To have obtained CESR and be on specialist register or,
- Within 6 months of obtaining CCT with recommendation of programme director
- Eligibility for Section 12 approval
Desirable
- MRCPsych or equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
- Relevant higher degree, e.g. MD. PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications
- Section 12 approval
