Gateway Recovery Centre has 72 beds spread across 6 wards.3 wards constitute the womens service with one acute ward and two level 2 rehabilitation ward for women with high support needs. The other 3 wards provide care to men in specialist rehabilitation unit for men with ASD (Cedar ward), low secure ward (Dove ward) and a rehabilitation ward for older men with complex mental health needs and physical health comorbidities (Ash Ward). Main duties of the job
Join the team at Gateway Recovery Centre, situated in Widnes, as a Consultant Psychiatrist. This part-time role involves providing care in specialist inpatient, rehabilitation, and low secure settings for men and women. The facility has 72 beds across 6 wards, including acute, and rehabilitation wards for women, and units for men with ASD, low security needs, and older men with complex mental and physical health issues. Work with a team of consultants, supported by a practice nurse, enhance GP service, and medical secretarial team. Responsibilities include providing consultant input, carrying caseloads, leading the clinical team, service development, and external agency collaboration. You'll need MRCPsych or equivalent, CCT in relevant fields, full GMC registration, and Section 12 (2) approval for success in the role.

Gateway Recovery Centre has 72 beds spread across 6 wards.3 wards constitute the women’s service with one acute ward and two level 2 rehabilitation ward for women with high support needs. The other 3 wards provide care to men in specialist rehabilitation unit for men with ASD (Cedar ward), low secure ward (Dove ward) and a rehabilitation ward for older men with complex mental health needs and physical health comorbidities (Ash Ward).
The team consists currently of 4.5 consultants, and you will deliver clinical care to a dedicated caseload. You will be supported by a practice nurse and an enhanced GP service to meet patients’ physical healthcare needs. You will have support from a dedicated supervisor and a medical secretarial team. Specialty doctor cover is available for the acute ward.
You will have access to excellent CPD, and the support of a large peer group of enthusiastic and high-calibre consultants from varied sub-specialties.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing RC and consultant psychiatrist input to inpatients
- 0.5 wte will carry a case load of 8-12 patients depending on the nature of the service
- Participation in a low frequency second- on-call rota for the region
- Assessing new referrals to ensure that the service meets the needs of those who are admitted.
- Providing leadership to the clinical team and contributing to clinical governance and service development
- Maintaining good relationships with external agencies such as community teams and commissioning bodies.
- Contributing to the training and education
To be successful in your application, you will need:
- To hold MRCPsych or equivalent
- CCT in general adult psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, psychiatry of LD or medical psychotherapy is preferred. We will consider experienced candidates who are not on the specialist register but have AC status.
- Full GMC registration and to have had an appraisal within the 12 months.
- Section 12 (2) approval and AC status
- Experience of working within an MDT in providing care for patients with complex needs
