Consultant Psychiatrist - Male Adult Inpatients , based at Berrywood Hospital in Northampton, Northamptonshire
Cove ward is a 17 bedded male only inpatient ward and this post will require assessment and management of a wide range of psychiatric presentations.
RC/AC status and section 12 required for this role.
Main duties of the job
The Consultant will play a pivotal role in ensuring proactive, recovery-focused, individualised treatment plans are in place and being followed for each patient. They will be supported with a team of professionals who have been recruited specifically for this unit. Our intention is to have a short length of stay to manage only the acute phase of illness and support care in the least restrictive manner.

Skills and Abilities
Essential
- • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- • Evidence of the ability to communicate with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels.
- • Ability to present complex information to a variety of audiences including courts and tribunals
- • Ability to motivate and develop junior Medical Staff and other MDT members
- • To balance individual requirements against those of the Directorate and Trust as a whole
- • An understanding of the political and financial framework within which the Services operate
- • Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
- Post holder will need to take initiative and work in a self-directed manner.
Desirable
- • Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
- • Able to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to this post
- • Experienced in clinical research and / or service evaluation

Experience and Knowledge
Essential
- MRCPsych
- Full GMC Registration
- On Specialist Register/CCT in General Adult Psychiatry or eligible for inclusion within six months.
- Approval under Section12 of the Mental Health Act
Desirable
- Additional Postgraduate Qualifications
- Publication of original research
- Management training
