Job summary
Vertis Health is seeking an experienced and motivated Consultant Psychiatrist to provide senior clinical leadership across our Adult and Children & Young People (CYP) Neurodevelopmental Services.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing, innovative NHS service delivering ADHD and Autism assessment, diagnosis and treatment pathways across Worcestershire. The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary team, helping to shape high-quality neurodevelopmental services while ensuring safe, evidence-based practice and excellent patient outcomes.
The role is suitable for Consultant Psychiatrists and experienced SAS Doctors with significant expertise in neurodevelopmental assessment and management across both adult and CYP populations.
Main duties of the job
As Consultant Psychiatrist, you will provide clinical leadership across ADHD and Autism services for adults and children and young people.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and quality assuring neurodevelopmental assessment and diagnostic pathways.
- Providing specialist assessment, diagnosis and management of ADHD and Autism.
- Acting as the senior clinical decision-maker for complex and high-risk cases.
- Delivering expert neurodevelopmental formulation and differential diagnosis.
- Providing oversight of ADHD medication initiation, titration and review.
- Supporting and supervising multidisciplinary clinicians including GPs, psychologists, nurses, pharmacists and allied health professionals.
- Chairing and contributing to multidisciplinary team discussions and complex case reviews.
- Ensuring services remain compliant with NICE guidance and best practice standards.
- Contributing to clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and service development initiatives.
- Building effective partnerships with primary care, CAMHS, adult mental health services, education providers and social care partners

Job responsibilities
The post holder will provide consultant-level psychiatric leadership across Adult and CYP ADHD and Autism pathways.
The service currently includes:
- Adult ADHD assessment, diagnosis and medication management.
- Adult Autism diagnostic services.
- CYP ADHD assessment and diagnosis pathways.
- CYP Autism multidisciplinary diagnostic pathways.
The successful candidate will:
- Lead diagnostic decision-making for ADHD and Autism assessments.
- Provide second opinions and senior reviews for diagnostically complex presentations.
- Support high standards of assessment, formulation and reporting.
- Oversee ADHD prescribing in line with NICE and UKAAN guidance.
- Ensure safe prescribing, monitoring and shared-care arrangements.
- Maintain robust governance around controlled drugs and risk management.
- Lead MDT meetings and case discussions.
- Support supervision, training and development of clinical colleagues.
- Promote evidence-based, patient-centred practice throughout the service.
- Participate in audit, quality improvement and service development projects.
- Support incident review, clinical governance and compliance processes.
- Contribute to pathway development and continuous improvement initiatives.
