Job overview

The Directorate of Plastic and Breast Surgery at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are looking to recruit a Whole-time Consultant Plastic Surgeon with Specialist interest in Skin Cancer Management and Burns.  The post will primarily be based at the Northern General Hospital but will  also work at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital and Sheffield Children's Hospital.

We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers.

Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Should any further vacancies arise shortlisted applicants will be considered.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will, together with consultant colleagues be responsible for the provision of the burns service to ensure the continued development of the Sheffield Burn Service and will also support the less complex skin service at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. Furthermore, the post holder will support the Trauma service at Northern General site for general plastic trauma and semi-elective conditions.

There will be weekly clinics and dedicated theatre lists for the management of all appropriate patients as listed above.

The appointee will be part of a trauma on-call rota (1:18) covering both Trusts involving Northern General, Royal Hallamshire and the Sheffield Children’s hospital. They will have continuing responsibility for patients in their care and the proper functioning of the Department.  The appointee will undertake outpatient clinics, elective operating sessions, ward round duties and supporting activities.
