The Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine at North Manchester General Hospital provides a range of specialist services from our North Manchester hospital site and within community settings for the local population of North Manchester.
The portfolio of Respiratory sub specialties, diagnostics and Sleep services at North Manchester General Hospital are well established, offering a range of tertiary clinics delivered both face to face and remotely where appropriate and the department has an excellent reputation, recognised at Group level for its strong and dynamic leadership team. Respiratory Services are provided across several hospitals within the MFT Group, with inpatient respiratory beds at North Manchester General Hospital, Manchester Royal Infirmary and Wythenshawe Hospital.
Main duties of the job
- Provision with consultant colleagues of a quality service to the Trust with responsibility for the diagnosis and treatment of patients referred to the specialty in an inpatient and outpatient setting.
- In conjunction with consultant colleagues to provide and develop Clinical leadership and Contribute to the vision and values of the service.
- Professional Supervision and management of junior medical staff.
- Participate in audit and continuing professional development.
- Contribute with on-going strategic redesign.
These duties will vary from year to year according to the evolution and development of Respiratory Services. You will be expected to comply with such changes as agreed to by your fellow clinicians and yourself and expressly as agreed to in your annual review of your job description.

- Evidence of teaching and training experience to support clinical supervisor status

Skills/ Knowledge
Essential
- Clinical expertise in Respiratory Medicine and broad knowledge of general medicine
- Clinical expertise in a specialist area of Respiratory Medicine e.g. lung cancer, ILD, COPD or Sleep etc.
- Good verbal and written communication skills including basic IT skills
- Ability to work well within a team and establish good professional relationships
- Evidence of effective leadership - organisational and clinical
- Clinical Governance understanding
- Understand the principles of audit
Desirable
- Attendance at Advanced communication skills or similar course
- Experience in leading service change or improvement
- Evidence of participation in audit projects
Education/ Qualifications
Essential
- Primary medical qualification e.g. MBChB
- Full registration with the GMC
- The appointee will hold the MRCP or show evidence of equivalent training and experience
- On the GMC Specialist Register, holding CCT or expect to do within 6 months of interview
- An understanding of general principles of research, scientific method and interpretation.

- A higher degree e.g. MD, PhD
