The Cluster 3 Perinatal Community Mental Health Service sits within the GM-wide Perinatal Community Service which is made up of three Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Teams . Cluster 3 covers North Manchester, Rochdale, Oldham and Tameside. There are 2 posts available, one post is for North Manchester and the other post is for Rochdale & Oldham.
The postholder will be the clinical leader of the Perinatal CMHT supported by the Operational leads and will undertake assessments of referrals/ admissions to the service. The Postholder will have a lead role in the assessment, formulation and management of cases and will carry a caseload of patients. The postholder will provide clinical supervision for trainees in gaining core psychiatric experience and in achieving competencies in core general psychiatry. The postholder will lead clinical decision making in the multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of high quality care and develop service clinical priorities in line with national and professional guidance and standards.
The team consists of:
- 3 x WTE Substantive Consultant Psychiatrist
- GP Trainees (occasionally)
- 1 x WTE Team Manager
- 1 x Senior Practitioner
- Community Psychiatric Nurses
- 1 x WTE Consultant Psychologist
- 1 x WTE Medical Secretary
- 1 X WTE Team Administrator
Main duties of the job
- The perinatal Consultant Psychiatrist (CP) will be the clinical leader of the Perinatal CMHT supported by the Operational leads. The CP will prioritise women depending on clinical need and ensure recommended timeframes are met. Undertake assessments of referrals/ admissions to the service
- They will have a lead role in the assessment, formulation and management of cases and will carry a caseload of patients with complex care needs and of patients deemed to present with increased risk in the perinatal period.
- Provide management in treatment resistant and complex presentations
- Assessment and management of risk including of vulnerability, suicide risk, risks to health and safety and risk of harm to others.
- Preparation of Court Reports, Mental Health Review Tribunal and Managers’ Hearings reports and attendance at subsequent hearings.
- These patients will predominantly be seen in the clinic setting but can also be seen in a variety of community settings if appropriate or necessary.
- Work in a collaborative way with multidisciplinary teams including external partners across maternity, social care, health visiting and primary care.
- The CP will run obstetric liaison clinics within the maternity setting and work in collaboration with the Specialist Perinatal Mental Midwife to plan pre and postnatal birth plans.

- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
- Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment
- Will have completed at least four years full time postgraduate training (or equivalent gained on a part time basis) at least 2 years of which will be in a core training programme in a relevant specialty, or will have equivalent experience and competencies
