This is an exciting opportunity to join an established and growing O&G team at Leeds Teaching Hospitals. Leeds maternity services are a busy, research active tertiary centre providing regional obstetric services including specialist fetal medicine, maternal medicine and placenta accreta services to much of North and West Yorkshire. The LGI is co-located with a Level 3 surgical (incl cardiac) NNU. The gynaecology service is predominantly based at St James University Hospital (Chancellor Wing), some elective gynaecology work including clinics, day case and overnight theatre and hysteroscopy also takes place at Wharfdale hospital.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant should hold Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists MRCOG (or equivalent) and should be on the Specialist Register or within six months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register. Applicants should have established skills in Obstetrics & Gynaecology and appropriate experience of managing recurrent miscarriage. Excellent communication and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential. Applicants should have completed SITMs/ATSMs appropriate to this specialist interest with demonstrable experience in this area. Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share. If shortlisted, you will be required to give a 10-minute presentation on: How would you tackle inequity and variation in recurrent miscarriage pathways at Leeds?

The ‘Leeds Centre for Women’s Health’ comprises a gynaecology ward, the gynaecology day-case unit, acute gynaecology and early pregnancy unit (GATU & EPU) and is based on the St James’s site. Our outpatient facility is located close to the inpatient unit, and enables the team to undertake more procedures in the outpatient setting and with the necessary facilities for assessment, diagnosis and treatment, usually on the same day. This department has recently incorporated gynaecology ultrasound scanning facilities to streamline the pathway. This hub is the home of the gynaecology nurse specialists, who already deliver a higher volume of nurse-led diagnosis and treatment clinics than any other centre nationally.

We work closely with community gynaecology services and launched the Integrated Gynaecology Service in partnership Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust in 2018. This has been very successful and enabled both teams to care for patients in the right setting.
