Job overview

West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospital wishes to appoint  a Consultant  Neurophysiologist  to be part of the Neurology department consisting of ten Consultant Neurologists and one Consultant Neurophysiologist who all have joint appointments with regional Neuroscience units at the Royal Free Hospital or the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. Neurophysiology outpatient clinics are held on two sites (Hemel and Watford).

Main duties of the job

This post will be outpatients  and will have link to the Royal Free Hospital Neurology department for CPD  duties will include :

  • West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospital will be the employer for the employer for the appointment and will issue the contract of employment. a) Direct Clinical Care includes:
  • Nerve conduction studies
  • Electromyography
  • Repetitive Nerve stimulation
  • Sympathetic Skin response
  • Cutaneous Silent period
  • Single fibre EMG
  • Neuro-muscular ultrasound
  • Evoked Potentials (SSEPs; BAEPs; VEPs) these are not available now due to lack of equipment
  • Thermal thresholds testing (QST) - this is not available now due to lack of equipment
  • Central motor conduction studies this is not available now due to lack of equipment
  • Movement disorder neurophysiology this is not available now due to lack of equipment
  • EEG

All Consultants will be allocated 1 core SPA per week for professional development (CPD), Job Planning, Appraisal, Mandatory Training, attendance at regular team meetings which will have a clinical governance aspect and participating in Audit.
