Applications are invited for this replacement substantive post.

The successful candidate will join a team of neonatologists in the Neonatal Unit at the Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy.

Successful applicants would be expected to contribute to the consultant of the week and on call rota (currently 1 in 7.5).

The post includes an opportunity to develop a special interest in neonatology with an experienced and supportive team of consultants.

Applicants must have full GMC Registration, a license to practise and eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview. Portfolio Pathway (formerly known as CESR - Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive consultant post once it has been awarded. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training to Non-UK Applicants must demonstrate that they have the knowledge, skills and experience required for practising as an eligible specialist in the UK.

Teaching

Essential

  • Evidence of formal or informal teaching, training and supervision of junior medical staff, medical students and other clinical staff.

Desirable

  • Clinical tutor status, Clinical Educator approval (or similar)

Management

Essential

  • An understanding of basic management issues

  • Desire to develop services for patients.

Qualifications

Essential

  • UK trained candidates must be on the specialist register or within 6 months of an approved CCT at the date of interview
  • Non UK candidates must have confirmation from the GMC that CESR has been awarded at the date of application
  • MRCPCH (or equivalent)
  • Enhanced clearance by Disclosure Scotland and Membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme
  • NLS provider status (or equivalent)

Desirable

  • Higher qualification in an area of specialist interest
  • Relevant SPIN module
  • ARNI provider status
  • NLS and/or ARNI instructor status

  • Able to undertake critical appraisal of clinical research.

Clinical Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Clinical experience in Neonatal Paediatrics
  • The ability to deal with a wide range of neonatal emergencies independently with back up remotely from tertiary specialists

Desirable

  • Extensive neonatal experience in variety of settings

Audit/QI/research/clinical governance

Essential

  • Evidence of completion of formal or informal clinical audit /QI project activity
  • Proven experience of aspects of clinical governance including for example, clinical audit, clinical guidelines, significant event reviews, perinatal morbidity & mortality reviews.

Desirable

  • Proven use of audit as a tool to manage change in clinical practice
  • Evidence of use of Quality Improvement methodology
  • Evidence of leadership in clinical governance roles.
  • Postgraduate qualification.
