Job overview
An exciting opportunity to join a team of 48 WTE Consultant Radiologists, including 8 substantive Consultants with sub-specialty interest in musculoskeletal imaging.
At UHNM the cross-sectional radiologists work closely with their colleagues in the Surgical and Medical Directorate through cancer MDT meetings and joint clinico-radiological meetings.
The successful applicant will share responsibilities to support the Trauma and Orthopaedics, Spinal and Rheumatology Departments through Multi-Disciplinary team meetings. Currently Spine, Rheumatology, Diabetes, Orthopaedic and Tumour MDTs are in place and there is rotation between all relevant radiologists.
Duties will include providing a comprehensive diagnostic and interventional musculoskeletal imaging service across the Trust. The post holder should be a dedicated clinician wishing to actively assist and further develop Musculoskeletal Radiology services in the Trust.
There is a well established skill-mix within MSK with a large number of advanced practitioners and consultant radiographers who report plain films, sonographers who perform and report MSK diagnostic US examinations and an advanced practitioner who reports knee and spine MRI exams.
Main duties of the job
As a MSK consultant radiologist at UHNM you will be working with some of the latest equipment available in a purpose built department.
UHNM is a tertiary referral centre for Trauma and Orthopaedics serving Staffordshire, Shropshire, South Cheshire and Wolverhampton. The Trauma and orthopaedics department has 28 consultants and 3 SAS and the spinal team has 9 dedicated spinal consultants and 1 SAS surgeon providing all aspects of trauma and orthopaedics and spinal services including deformity correction, oncology surgery and trauma. There is a huge demand for MSK intervention services for procedures including image guided injections, arthrography, myelography, biopsies, nerve root blocks and vertebroplasty and the post holder is expected to contribute to this type of work.
The department performs and reports approximately 400,000 examinations per annum, with a high proportion of complex imaging and procedural radiology.
A Community Diagnostic Centre opened in Spring 2026.
We use an award-winning PACS which allows for easy streamlined, efficient and trouble-free reporting from either centre utilising PACS based reporting.
The post holder will contribute to the delivery of a high quality radiology service within a busy imaging department providing both general and specialist services in diagnostics and interventional imaging.
You will contribute to the weekday on-call service on rotation with also a 1 in 8 rota for Saturdays or Sundays.
The job plan will include CPD SPA
