We are currently recruiting for a Consultant Microbiologist to join us at Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary.

You’ll be joining two friendly Consultant colleagues in a well‑equipped, UKAS‑accredited laboratory, working closely with teams right across the hospital and wider region.

Whether you bring experience in Infectious Diseases or simply an enthusiasm for collaborative working, you will be supported to shape your role and grow your interests.

Experience

Essential

  • Broad-based Medical Microbiology experience
  • Recent experience in modern healthcare facilities covering Medical Microbiology and Infection Prevention Control
  • Able to liaise effectively with colleagues both locally and in other centres. This may include the requirement to chair Incident management meetings.
  • A demonstrable commitment to antimicrobial stewardship

Desirable

  • Experience in implementing and maintaining UKAS Laboratory Accreditation Standards.
  • Experience in specialist areas of reporting required to complement and support the skills of the existing post holders

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GMC Registration
  • MBChB or equivalent
  • MRCP (or equivalent, for applicants with CCT in Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases)
  • FRCPath (or equivalent)
  • GMC Specialist Register in Medical Microbiology/Virology (or within 6 months of obtaining CCT).
  • Candidates must have confirmation from GMC that CESR has been awarded at the date of application

Desirable

  • Additional post-graduate qualifications e.g. MD/PhD/MSc
  • Diploma Hospital Infection Control
  • Diploma Tropical Medicine & Hygiene

  • Undertake annual consultant appraisal.
  • Hold or be capable of obtaining a UK work permit (if appropriate)

  • Work collaboratively and flexibly with colleagues to share workload and achieve service delivery

Desirable

  • It would be adventitious to have registration to the CPD Scheme
