The post will cover lung and one other tumour group preferably breast (radiotherapy only) or lymphoma though other interests can be discussed. You will be located at Queen’s Hospital, Romford, Essex where the Oncology department is based.
Main duties of the job
Consultant Clinical Oncologist (Lungs)
To provide, to a high standard, the full range of specialist diagnosis, treatment and care to patients requiring oncology services, as outlined in the proposed program which includes the following:
- Clinical oncology management of lung malignancy including RT/SABR and SACT.
- Clinical oncology management of one other tumour site.
- New patient numbers approx. 170-200 per annum. This will be four to five patients per week on a 42-week year.
- To work with and support the established multi-disciplinary site-specific teams.
- Outpatient chemotherapy and inpatient clinical opinions.
- Participate in the oncology urgent/emergency care service:
- Once current recruitment is complete consultants on-call frequency will be 1:15 non-resident for advice. During core hours 0845-1700 Monday to Friday we operate a ‘consultant of the day model’. This consists of attendance of the Sky B board round, input into oncology patients presenting to ED overnight. Patients who present with SACT or RT related toxicity are expected to have care ‘taken over’ by oncology. Those patients placed outside of the specialist ward are required to have daily input from the consultant or SpR of the day. Routine elective work within the job plan is cancelled or reduced accordingly.
